Adult volunteers and older adults assembling senior support care kits together

Direct answer

All Seniors Foundation is accepting preliminary interest from adults age 18 and older who are exploring a possible professional skills-based volunteer pathway in Los Angeles or the San Fernando Valley. This is an information and interest page—not a current opening, placement offer, volunteer assignment, school-credit decision, or promise of availability.

At a glance

All Seniors Foundation may evaluate preliminary interest related to Professional Skills-Based Volunteering for adults age 18 and older in Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. A skills-based role must start with a real charitable project brief, owner, deliverable, timeline, conflict review, insurance decision, confidentiality boundary, and acceptance criteria. Professional skill does not authorize the volunteer to represent All Seniors, advise a patient or client, sign work, practice a regulated profession, or create an ongoing service relationship.

This page is not an opening, placement offer, school approval, certification program, or promise of capacity. Submitting an inquiry does not guarantee acceptance, placement, academic credit, clinical hours, volunteer service, employment, supervision, or availability. Any next step depends on current capacity and the requirements that apply to the specific pathway.

What makes this pathway distinct

A skills-based role must start with a real charitable project brief, owner, deliverable, timeline, conflict review, insurance decision, confidentiality boundary, and acceptance criteria. Professional skill does not authorize the volunteer to represent All Seniors, advise a patient or client, sign work, practice a regulated profession, or create an ongoing service relationship.

The accountable learning or service outcome would be: Contribute a bounded professional deliverable to a charitable project without replacing staff or implying a regulated client-service relationship. The final scope must be educational or genuinely charitable, bounded, reviewable, and matched to current mentor/coordinator capacity.

Discipline-specific planning worksheet

Bounded project-charter exercise

A skills-based volunteer inquiry can be evaluated through a sample project charter before any data or system access is discussed. The charter should name the charitable problem, project owner, exact deliverable, assumptions, milestones, acceptance criteria, reviewer, handoff format, and closeout date. It should also identify conflicts, confidentiality, intellectual-property treatment, portfolio use, and the point at which access ends.

A hypothetical designer, analyst, translator, accountant, technologist, or legal-support professional could mark which tasks fit ordinary volunteer service and which require a current license, separate engagement, or authorized client relationship. Professional experience does not allow someone to advise an individual senior, sign a filing, speak for All Seniors, or reuse organizational information.

The finished charter demonstrates disciplined scoping and a clean exit. A genuine project would still require an approved owner, current need, supervision, insurance and classification review, secure workspace, and capacity to review the final work.

Possible learning or service activities

The following examples are planning concepts, not activities presently offered:

  1. Review a defined public-facing process or artifact.
  2. Create a draft design, analysis, translation, training, or technical deliverable.
  3. Document assumptions, sources, and limitations.
  4. Revise through an authorized review cycle.
  5. Transfer approved final files and close access at completion.

Each item would require a written role brief, appropriate supervision, current capacity, and an evaluation or service-hour process before participation.

Activities that remain outside scope

  1. Giving individual medical, legal, financial, tax, or benefits advice.
  2. Signing, filing, representing, or speaking for All Seniors without authority.
  3. Accessing patient, donor, applicant, employee, or client records by default.
  4. Using organization data or work for another purpose.
  5. Creating an open-ended support obligation or replacing paid staff.

These boundaries protect older adults, students, volunteers, schools, staff, and the organization. A mentor or coordinator cannot waive a legal, licensing, privacy, safety, insurance, patient-consent, or school requirement through an informal conversation.

Supervision, site and information boundaries

Responsible supervision or coordination: A named project owner and volunteer coordinator who approve scope, conflicts, access, review, representation, acceptance, and closeout.

Site or mode: The exact setting and mode must be named in an approved role brief; local interest does not create a site, remote option, event, shift, or travel assignment.

Information boundary: Access to people, records, systems, devices, facilities, and confidential information is limited to the minimum approved need. Observation or trainee status never creates automatic access.

No first-contact form should request Social Security numbers, complete birth dates, government IDs, medical records, immunization records, background reports, drug-screen results, licenses, transcripts, insurance certificates, or school dossiers. Any justified document exchange begins later through an approved secure process.

Evidence required before an offer or availability claim

  1. Real project brief, charitable purpose, owner, and acceptance criteria.
  2. Volunteer skills and any required license/credential verification.
  3. Conflict, confidentiality, intellectual-property, and portfolio-use decisions.
  4. Data, system, person, and facility access boundary.
  5. Schedule, supervision, insurance, classification, safety, and capacity.
  6. Final review, file transfer, access termination, and service-hour authority.

An authorized owner must review the complete evidence packet. An inquiry, school request, or needed-hours deadline is not a substitute for these facts.

How a preliminary inquiry would work

  1. Read the Placement Requirements and identify the exact program or charitable purpose.
  2. Use the minimum-necessary form on this page to share planning information. Do not send sensitive documents or records.
  3. An authorized owner checks the proposal against current site, mentor/supervisor, classification, privacy, safety, insurance, accessibility, and capacity facts.
  4. The status may remain Under review. A possible match is not an offer.
  5. Participation begins only after the responsible parties issue and complete a written, approved scope with dates, supervision, conditions, and evaluation or hour authority.

Frequently asked questions

Can professionals advise individual seniors?

No individual medical, legal, financial, tax, benefits, or other regulated advice is offered by this general volunteer concept.

Who owns the work product?

A real project must resolve ownership, licenses, confidentiality, attribution, and portfolio use in writing before work begins.

Can a volunteer represent All Seniors externally?

Not without explicit, limited, written authority for a verified project.

Is this volunteer role currently open?

No. This page accepts preliminary interest for review, but it does not represent a current volunteer role, assignment, schedule, service-hour offer, school-credit decision, or guaranteed availability. A real opportunity can be offered only after the role-specific evidence listed on this page is confirmed.

Can a school promise credit for volunteering?

No. Only the school or program decides whether a confirmed experience meets its requirements. All Seniors can document hours only through an approved role and authorized process.

What happens after I express interest?

The Career Pathways team compares the inquiry with current need, coordinator capacity, screening, safety, insurance, schedule, supervision, and hour-logging requirements. Interest may remain under review and does not create a match, shift, reference, or job path.

  • California Labor Code section 3352 — California Labor Code section 3352 is a workers' compensation provision that excludes certain voluntary service from the statutory definition of employee; it does not by itself decide wage-hour classification or create a blanket exemption for every arrangement.
