Can Seniors Receive IHSS If They Already Have Home Health Care?
Yes—seniors can receive In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) even if they are already using home health care. IHSS is designed to supplement, not duplicate, skilled nursing or therapy services provided through Medicare or Medicaid. All Seniors Foundation works with families to coordinate IHSS with any other in-home medical services to ensure seniors get all the support they need.
How Do the Services Work Together?
- Home Health Care: Covers skilled medical services (nursing, therapy) for short-term or chronic needs, usually ordered by a doctor and covered by Medicare or Medi-Cal.
- IHSS: Provides personal care, housekeeping, meal preparation, and supervision—ongoing, non-medical support not covered by Medicare.
What to Know
- IHSS hours may be adjusted if a senior receives services from other programs to avoid overlap, but both programs can be used simultaneously.
- All Seniors Foundation helps families develop a holistic care plan that combines IHSS and home health care for optimal results.
