Role Overview:
As LGBTQ+ Senior Outreach Coordinator, you will build trust with LGBTQ+ older adults — a historically underserved community in senior care. You will develop affirming programs, train staff on LGBTQ+ cultural competency, and connect LGBTQ+ seniors to free care that respects their identities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build trust with LGBTQ+ senior communities across LA through outreach at LGBT Centers, Pride events, and community gatherings
- Develop LGBTQ+-affirming care pathways within ASF and partner organizations
- Train all ASF staff on LGBTQ+ cultural competency, pronoun use, and chosen-family considerations
- Coordinate intake and benefits navigation for LGBTQ+ seniors with attention to chosen family and partner rights
- Partner with LA LGBT Center, GenderJustLA, and other organizations on referrals and joint programming
- Lead support groups specifically for LGBTQ+ older adults dealing with isolation, caregiving, or loss
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in social work, public health, gender studies, or related field
- 2+ years working with LGBTQ+ populations, healthcare, or aging services
- Deep cultural competency around LGBTQ+ history, identities, and senior-specific challenges
- Strong group facilitation and community organizing skills
- SAGECare or similar LGBTQ+-aging certification preferred
