Every service is delivered at no cost, regardless of insurance status.
Role Overview:
As Bilingual Tagalog Patient Advocate, you will serve as the trusted point of contact for Tagalog-speaking older adults across LA’s Filipino-American communities including Historic Filipinotown, Eagle Rock, Carson, and west Covina. You will translate and advocate through benefits navigation and healthcare access.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial assessments with Tagalog-speaking seniors and families
- Translate between English-speaking staff and Tagalog-speaking clients during medical and benefits conversations
- Help clients enroll in Medi-Cal, IHSS, hospice, Medicare Savings Programs, and other benefits
- Accompany clients to medical appointments and benefits offices as interpreter and advocate
- Document interactions in our case-management system and follow up on open issues
- Build trust with Filipino-American communities through outreach at parishes, community centers, and senior housing
Qualifications:
- Native or near-native fluency in Tagalog AND English; Ilocano or other Filipino languages a plus
- Experience working with elderly populations, healthcare systems, or social services
- Cultural competency with Filipino-American senior communities
- Strong empathy, patience, and ability to explain complex topics in plain language
- High school diploma; bachelor’s in social work, public health, or related preferred
