Does Medicare Cover Home-Based Ultrasound Services for Seniors?
Medicare does provide coverage for medically necessary ultrasound services—including those performed in the home—when ordered by a qualified healthcare provider. If your doctor determines that an ultrasound is needed and home-based care is appropriate due to your health or mobility limitations, Medicare Part B will typically pay for the service, subject to standard rules and copays.
Requirements for Medicare Coverage
- The ultrasound must be ordered by a physician or nurse practitioner as medically necessary for diagnosis or treatment.
- The provider of the ultrasound service, such as All Seniors Foundation, must be enrolled with Medicare and meet all regulatory requirements.
- Documentation is needed to demonstrate that in-home imaging is necessary due to the patient’s health status or inability to travel.
What’s Covered?
- Most standard ultrasound exams—abdominal, pelvic, cardiac, vascular, and more—are eligible for coverage if medically indicated.
- Interpretation by a board-certified radiologist and a written report for your doctor are included in the service.
How to Access Covered Services
- Ask your doctor or All Seniors Foundation to confirm Medicare eligibility, help with any required paperwork, and coordinate the home visit.
